We emphasize primary care. Every patient has an assigned doctor. We encourage families to see the same doctor for all checkups -- and even sick visits if scheduling permits. This way we get to know you better! Also, if something really difficult or complicated comes up, we’ll be in a better position to address it. Along this same line of reasoning, we strongly encourage annual check ups.
We book schedules a little bit lighter than many pediatric offices. This helps avoid the sense of being rushed and reduces waiting times in the exam room -- where time, we know, slows down!
We view ourselves as consultants -- not the parents. If there are reasonable options available, we try to lay them out and give parents the choice.
Although we rarely discharge families for medical noncompliance, we will tactfully and sometimes repeatedly communicate our concerns as needed.
-
We treat all families with dignity and respect regardless of socio-economic status. Children who are insured by a government program are given the same kind of care as those who have private insurance.

After hours phone calls from the hospital are sent directly to the on call doctor. Calls from parents are handled by well-trained advice nurses. When necessary, they confer with the on-call physician.
We make judicious use of new technology. High-tech devices such as temporal artery thermometers and pulse oximeters can be found in both our offices. Although we have not adopted an electronic medical record (they seem to take something away from the doctor-patient relationship), we do use computers liberally for scheduling, bookkeeping, and research.
